A Canadian Police Information Check (CPIC) is a Name and Date of Birth based background check. A CPIC is the simplest and fastest way of checking your record. These checks may be required for various purposes such as employment, immigration etc.
Some employers may request a Name and Date of Birth based check (CPIC) instead of digital fingerprinting as a way to verify your Criminal Record in Canada.
Certain professional licenses (e.g., healthcare professionals, real estate agents, insurance agents, and security guards) may request a name and date of birth based check instead of digital fingerprinting as part of their background check process.
Students entering specific educational programs, particularly those with clinical or field placements (e.g., nursing, social work), may need a CPIC or digital fingerprinting for security clearances before beginning any clinical/field placements.

A Canadian Police Information Check (CPIC) is a name and date of birth based background check. It is the simplest and fastest way of checking your criminal record.
A CPIC (Canadian Police Information Check) is commonly used for employment background screenings, immigration and visa applications, professional licensing, and volunteer work, especially when working with vulnerable populations.
It may also be required for firearm licenses, security clearances, legal purposes, and adoption or foster care applications. Additionally, a CPIC check may be necessary for name change requests and in certain cases, Canadian citizenship applications.
This background check helps organizations and authorities verify an individual's criminal history to ensure public safety and eligibility for various roles or benefits.
The processing time for a CPIC is typically between 2-24 hours. Our team does their best to provide your results as soon as possible.
A CPIC is a basic name and date of birth check through the Canadian Police Information Centre's system. It is much more broad than a fingerprint-based check. The results of a CPIC are also available faster than a Fingerprint-based check.
However, since a CPIC will match a person's name and Date of Birth, if another individual with the same name and Date of Birth does have a criminal record, this information may be reflected on your record as well.
A Fingerprint-based Check avoids this conflict since it completes a criminal record check based on fingerprints, which are unique to each individual.
Yes! A2Z Screening Ltd. is able to accept and process CPIC applications entirely online. Clients may still choose to visit the office, however, the online method is preferred by many clients.
A negative result means that there was nothing on your record, and that no other record has been found of anyone with the same name and date of birth.
In other words, this means your criminal record is CLEAR.
An Incomplete result means that there might be a charge on your record or the record of someone with a similar name and Date of Birth.
When this occurs, our clients are recommended to complete a fingerprint-based background check to obtain more information on what the charge may be.
